Our Club were pleased to be asked to organise the HSBC Roots family fun challenge on Saturday. The event sponsored by HSBC, the Golf Foundation and IMG is a UK wide supports the Golf Foundation’s national HSBC Golf Roots programme that reaches 500,000 youngsters a year from schools to golf clubs and helps more children to get involved in golf, a sport which offers ‘Skills for life, a game for life and a healthy life’.
Two sporting legends and HSBC ambassadors, Tim Henman and Brian O’Driscoll actively took part in the challenge to mark this initiative on Saturday and also the growth of 87 new Golf Foundation HSBC Golf Roots projects in Scottish golf clubs, as the Foundation extends its working partnership with Scottish Golf.
21 juniors with parents/guardians/ grandparents from the Monifieth clubs participated in this fun filled event.
The morning started with coaching from Gordon McLeod and the professional from the Golf Foundation in fun filled drills in these skills and culminated in the challenge which was to chip as many balls into a target from 10 metres in 60 seconds.
The event in bringing families together proved to be a resounding success and augurs well for similar local events in future to promote golf in Monifieth.
All the children were given HSBC roots T Shirts and caps from the Carnoustie Open. The Adults were given tickets to take the children to the final day of the Open on Sunday.
