The final Thursday evening coaching session for the year consisted of a Texas scramble over the Ashludie course for the more experienced juniors and putting and target golf competitions for the beginners. All the competitions were very close especially in the Texas scramble where there was only two points between the first three teams. Prizes were presented in the clubhouse in front of a large gathering of parents and friends by Club Captain, Alan Orr and Lady Captain, Carol Macdonald. Over the season we had 62 juniors attending the sessions, 45 boys and 17 girls. Andy and I would like to thank all the volunteers who have helped out during the season, but we still need more to assist next year. We also need more club members to commit to becoming PGA level 1 licensed coaches in order to improve our junior coaching programmes. These courses run over a weekend during the year.

The Junior Championship was held on Saturday over the Ashludie Course with 7 Competitors. A lot of good golf was played with a spectacular round of golf particularly by last year’s winner 13 year old Sam Hutton who shot a gross 82 net 56 to regain the trophy he won last year. The handicap shield was won by Michael Speid with a net 59. Most of the juniors had their dads supporting them and the three matches were refereed by Ron, Andy and Lady Captain Carol Macdonald. A large crowd gathered in the Clubhouse for the presentations by junior coaches Andy McLaren and Ron Macdonald. The standard of golf on the day was excellent with the competitors’ ages ranging from 11-14 and this bodes well for the future.
Ross Fenton net 72, Alexander Lowe net 80, Adam Laing net 80, Owen Peacock net 87. Monty Monteith net 87.
